Common questions

A place shows the wrong opening hours.

Opening hours mostly come from OpenStreetMap, which anyone can improve — you can fix them at openstreetmap.org and the correction reaches Hungry Map with the next weekly region pack update. Or just send us the place’s name and town and we’ll take a look.

Why do some places say “hours unknown”?

Not every place has opening hours in OpenStreetMap yet. When the map shows one, our server tries to research the hours for you, so many of them fill in over the next days. Until then, the place card still shows what Apple knows.

Do I need to download anything?

Hungry Map offers to download the opening-hours pack for your region (a few megabytes). Packs update themselves in the background and let the open-now logic work even with poor reception.

A menu couldn’t be loaded.

Some restaurants don’t publish a menu online, or only as an image the app can’t read. In that case, snap a photo of the menu on site — text recognition runs on your iPhone, and only the recognised text is sent for sorting.

How accurate are the calories?

They’re rough ranges based on the menu text, meant for comparing dishes — not nutrition or medical advice. If you have allergies or special dietary needs, always ask the staff.

How do I restore my Premium purchase?

Open the Premium screen in the app and tap “Restore purchase”, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with. Purchases also carry over automatically to your other iPhone or iPad.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Hungry Map. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.

Where are my favourites and ratings stored?

On your device and — if iCloud is on — in your private iCloud, so they appear on your other devices. We can’t see them. Deleting the app and its iCloud data (Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage) removes them.

Why does the app ask for my location?

Only to show what’s around you. We never receive your location; it’s only used on your device. You can also use the app without it by moving the map yourself.
